Pour sa première exposition après deux ans de travaux, la Villa Bernasconi invite Vanessa Billy pour une exposition personnelle.
Le procédé artistique de Vanessa Billy est intimement lié aux matériaux, tels que le silicone, le verre, le métal, le béton, la bio-résine, l’huile de vidange et aux objets de récupération, dont elle explore les limites et les contraintes physiques. Elle aborde la transmutation, les cycles énergétiques et vitaux, les relations de l’humain à la nature, à l’alimentation et à la machine, avec en filigrane les problématiques environnementales et écologiques, qu’elle traduit par des techniques aussi diverses que la sculpture, le moulage, l’installation, la photographie, la vidéo. Parallèlement à sa fascination pour la matière et ses contingences, Vanessa Billy nourrit sa recherche artistique par de nombreuses lectures philosophiques, scientifiques ou de fiction. Essentielles dans leur forme, ses œuvres reflètent ce mouvement incessant entre matérialité et intellect, entre trace gestuelle et conceptualisation.
Née à Genève en 1978, Vanessa Billy vit et travaille à Zurich.
En partenariat avec le Centre d’art Pasquart de Bienne qui présente du 12 septembre au 21 novembre l’exposition We Become de Vanessa Billy. Une publication paraîtra à l’occasion de ces deux expositions en octobre.
For its first exhibition after being shut for two years, the Villa Bernasconi has invited Vanessa Billy for a solo presentation (1978, lives in Zurich).
Vanessa Billy uses a variety of techniques – moulding, glass blowing, photography, video and installation – while maintaining a creative process which begins with materials she manipulates to the limits of their physical properties. She sometimes adds salvaged objects to create new forms. Through direct contact with the materials, incessantly reforming them, the artist explores three main themes: energy (in particular the dynamics of circulation and transformation), technology and the human, and the impact of human activity on the environment.
While Vanessa Billy is exhibiting in Lancy, she will also be showing her work at the Centre Pasquart in Bienne. The two exhibitions are complementary so visitors will have two opportunities to appreciate how the artist distributes her works in space, an essential aspect of her work.
